Hello everyone!
First of all thanks for subscribing, it means a lot.
Since announcing etude I’ve been scratching my head as what to include. Do I include the big hitters, large buildings doing live stream of plays or do I just include weird stuff. I’m in two minds. One side, I’m assuming that people know about which NPO’s are doing live streams and when and it’s wrong to assume that everyone has acces to that info, following the right people on twitter and all that, but on the second hand, does it need more hyping up from a random mailer. The reason why I’ve been wrestling with this is that this week Chichester are doing a stream of Sarah Kane’s Crave. It’s everywhere on theatre twitter, people are hyped. It looks pretty, it’s a rarely performed play and the director is top. Lots to be excited about. But I’m not the Guardian. I don’t really want the first thing I suggest to be A BIG ‘UN. I want this newsletter to feel like I’ve done a lot of heavy lifting for you. I want to show you things that I’ve really had to look for to find.
There will be some contridiciton to this. I feel resistant in hyping up a big NPO’s production in the UK but will probably get excited about a big production abroad or a European institute putting a lot of money into a thing. What is the difference in getting excited about a Volksbühne as opposed to one from Chichester? I dunno. This is something I’m going to wrestle with over the coming weeks. Maybe it’s the eternal cycle of a theatre soft boi? Looking to Europe as the promised land of theatre? I dunno. Thomas Ostermeier kind of sucks though…
I’m probably going to learn a lot about myself with these listings. Anyway…
Below are this weeks listings. Some are a mixture of things I’ve already watched and some that are on my to watch list. Some are old. Some are new. Some might be good. Some might not be good. Some are just documented. Some are made specifically for a digitial space.
I want to encourage curoisity so I’m not going to write about the pieces. I’ll give you a title, form and a picture. If they look good, click the title and check it out!
I hope you find something you like.
