Do you think you’re better off alone? by Rowland Hill
free but you should become a supporter of Hoax
on demand
Emerging in the immediate aftermath of the Berlin Wall, Eurodance was established in the ‘golden era’ of Western Europe’s underground scene in the early ’90s. Do you think you’re better off alone? offers a speculative reading of the dance music from this period and its relationship to the European Union, white nationalism and the dance floor as an extra-temporal space of collective fantasy, projection and psychodrama.
The talk is part of an ongoing fan-project, Interesting Times, which uses the cultural artefacts of ’90s Eurodance as material for speculative fiction writing for public forums, including dance-floors, radio sets and gallery installations.
Flow My Tears by Braulio Cruz and John-Philip Faienza
donations welcome
Saturday 22nd
A funeral service streamed to the internet, where the audience and the protagonist are both digital ghosts, searching for corporeal feelings of mourning out in the late-night city and encountering the consequences of a momentous event without really being there. This project comes from deep wondering about loss, familial and otherwise, that occurred this past year in which only a cursory, observed, virtual processing served as a simulacrum of mourning.

gloria rehearsal (excerpt) by Molly Lieber & Eleanor Smith
free
on demand until 24th Jan
gloria rehearsal (excerpt) is a feminist work continuing NYC-based Molly Lieber and Eleanor Smith’s fifteen-year choreographic partnership using abstract dance as a means to break down patriarchal systems of degradation. The artists position themselves as recognizable images of female objectification, only to deconstruct and reconstitute these forms through embodied movement and connection. gloria rehearsal (excerpt) is a meditation striving toward catharsis despite deep communal grief.
Thank you for reading and I hope you find something you love.
Until next week
Josh
