Hey everyone,
Going to keep this brief but due to a lot of life things, I won’t be able to do etude any more. You may have realised that I made this decision a few months back as I haven’t done an etude since August. I just wanted to formilse it a bit.
There’s a few things that have led to this decision
Over the last editions of etude, it kept losing subscribers. Everytime I posted one, rather than gaining subscribers, we lost them. I don’t know why. Maybe a mixture of not many people wanting to seek online work anymore or, more than likely, etude wasn’t that intresting.
I announced I got funding early in the year to do some research on digital platforms. Due to illness over the summer that meant I couldn’t work for 2 months, I had to step back from this funding. I just didn’t have time or the mental capacity to do it. The funders were really understanding and they were incredibly reassuring.
I was spending a lot of time on this without pay and simply put, I had to place priority on jobs that will pay the rent. The 6 hours a week I’d spend researching for etude had to go into jobs or time spent writing applications. etude became low on the prioty list
This is a weird one but…I started getting messages from people asking me about funding oppurtunies for digital theatre or what theatres were giving the best deals for live stream shows. I had and still have no idea. etude didn’t give me an insider knowledge or made me a voice for all things digital theatre. I never wanted that or antone to presume that. I think its a bit naive of me to assume I’m a voice that deservs to be listened to just becuase I’m speaking the loudest. First and formost, I’m a theatre fan. I like theatre a lot and really enjoy exploring the weirder side of it. Doing etude was the equivilent of me spending hours in a bookshop or record store, thumbing through the b-sides to band I’ve never heard of. It made me feel a bit uncomfertable when people would ask me about how they could get funding for cameras or streaming platforms. I felt like I had led people on.
so…yeah. end of etude. I’m not going to delete the mailing list as it feels good that some of these shows have been documented in some way. Here are the full list of etudes
If you do want to support me then you can donate via ko-fi. The money people donated earlier went to paying for the two reviews we published, which is probably the best thing I did with etude as I love those texts. Cheers Frey & cheers James
I feel a bit uneasy about this but someone suggested I do it.
I have a show on next year that you can stream so if you want to, come down and see it.
Liverpool stream - Thursday 16th Febuary 2022
Manchester streams - Friday 17th & Saturday 18th 2022
Thanks again everyone for supporting etude over the last year and a bit. It did mean a lot.
Talk soon
